Bulletin 009 Carifesta CD-15

The Carifesta Artistic Management has proposed a schedule of events for August 21st to 30th in the western department, Jacmel, Les Cayes, Gonaives and Cap-Haitien. Dozens of artists, creators, and craftsmen will be participating. Emeline Michel, James Germain, Erol Josué, the Tabou Combo, Mikaben, J Perry, and several others will be representing Haiti. Amongst the Caribbean artists and groups like Baldeo Tammy, Ophelia, DBurnz Antigua and Barbados Flash Mob, Anthony Drew, and others, will be attending.

The “Youth Village” will be installed at the National Bureau of Ethnology (BNE) and the exhibition “Haiti, earth of all beginnings” will also take place at the BNE throughout the duration of the Festival. We will have the BNE declamations of Barbadian poet Dempste Simons and storytellers, Ameena Blackwood Meeks and Bibi Azeez from Jamaica and Guyana.

All the rooms of Ciné Théâtre Triomphe will host events: Concerts, dance performances, theater and film. Mexico and Cuba are the countries to show the most movies. From August 20th, the National Pantheon Museum (MUPANAH) will receive, the exhibition “Memory sharing”; this exhibition is figure in the top of the list of Carifesta XII. Others events, including the opening ceremony, will start on August 21st at the Kiosk Occide Jeanty. The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, Prime Minister Mr Evans Paul and several Heads of States and Governments of the Caribbean will be of attendance.

Jacmel, Les Cayes, Gonaives and Cap-Haitian will host concerts, puppet shows, workshops, and film projections. About ten Caribbean nations will have the privilege to visit the lakous Soukri, Souvenance and Badio.

The speech of the Professor Laennec Hurbon, titled“The Caribbean and its memory as a project”, at the National Library, in the symposium organized as part of Carifesta XII Haiti.

Haiti is the land of all beginnings, this edition of the great Caribbean event is promising and offers other ways to see, understand and build a shared memory.
