mjmHis Excellency Michel Joseph Martelly
President of the Republic of Haiti

Michel Joseph Martelly born in Port-au-Prince on February 12, 1961. A career musician, he traveled, from a young age, throughout the entire country; each district, each commune, each village. From this professional experience, he acquired a very deep knowledge of the country and of the Haitian people.

Faced with the magnitude of the disaster that struck the country on January 12, 2010, Michel Martelly decided to become a candidate in the Haitian presidential elections and finished ahead of the pack.

May 2011 marked his inauguration as the 56th President of Haiti. His transformative vision of the State rests on education, employment, the rule of law, the environment and energy.

In 2012 , President Martelly was awarded the Order of Merit of Duarte Sanchez y Mella in the Grade of Grand Cross Gold Plaque by the President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernández.

That same year, the International Academic Unit of the University of Panama’s Law and Political Science School awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order of Gil Colunje, one of the highest honors awarded to a foreigner, in recognition for his commitment to the development and recovery of his country.
